Healthy Related?

How long can you let stuff sit in the fridge. I have some chicken thighs and ground turkey that I bought, geez, I think last week that I forgot to freeze. And how about other things too? (I just can't think of other examples off of the top of my head)

Everything has a different shelf life than everything. And everything has a different shelf life depending on the quality and air-tightness, sometimes even shadiness, of the packaging.

7 days ago, you might still be OK with poultry as long as you are positive there aren't any holes anywhere in the packaging. I don't think you'd want to go longer than 9 days, though.

Beef usually can't go that long. But beef also has obvious appearance issues. (If you see any gray or green, don't buy it, eat it or cook it.) Beef is about 3-4 days, if it's under lights. 5-6 if it's kept dark.

Pork is about 4-5 days, I think. You could try longer, but I never have.

Smell it - chicken smells awful when it goes bad - like spoiled milk (yick! happens to me about 2x a year...). Everyone's fridge is different so you may have one that keeps things good longer than others. Looking, smelling and touching helps more than you think.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure my chicken is bad, I opened it about 4 days ago. It doesn't smell horrid to me but I've had enough food poisoning due to chicken that I don't want to chance it. I was just thinking I might make meatballs with the ground turkey tonight and noticed the package was still in the fridge. *headdesk* I have really got to get on the ball!

I've got a lot of experience with this:
If you aren't going to cook fresh meat within 2 days of bringing it home, then freeze it immediately to retain quality.

Supermarket packages often have tiny tears, I always wrap meat in a plastic bag or saran wrap to keep air out.
Cooked food - 2-4 days, again, keep it cold and in airtight wrapping.

If meat smells bad at all, or is slimey, give it to your dog, or toss it...dogs stomachs can handle all kinds of things that ours cannot, and vice versa.
