Sat, April 5, 2008 - 10:32 AMIf I'm putting citrus through my Champion, I wash it well, and juice it with the peel. -

Fri, May 9, 2008 - 8:18 PMIf you juice with the peel, maybe best to go organic (?)

Re: fave fresh juice recipe?
Sat, April 5, 2008 - 11:08 PMI've found that if juicing a goodly amount of citrus with its peel, it gets rather frothy...not necessarily a bad thing. for lemon in a glass or two of mixed juice, we usually add just 1/2-1 lemon, and use the whole fruit.

Re: fave fresh juice recipe?
Sun, April 6, 2008 - 10:17 PMThis is a great thread! I just got a juicer about a month ago and I've been running every kind of vegetable and fruit through it. My favorite is:
apple
orange
ginger
pineapple
spinach
I put spinach in everything. No flavor, lots of good stuff. But don't spill it all over your beige carpet because it will turn GREEN. This I learned the hard way!

Re: fave fresh juice recipe?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 1:54 AMYay juice! I went on a 4-day juice fast back in December, and I've been thinking about doing it again.
I have two favorites:
fennel, ginger, apple & pear - Modeled after the "Dancing Queen" from R Thomas Deluxe Grill in Atlanta.
carrot, beet, tomato, parsley, spinach, celery - This one gets a tiny dash of cayenne and paprika and I serve it over ice for a spicy dinner replacement, or a great base for a super nutritious Bloody Mary.
I haven't tried juicing asparagus, but I wonder what flavor element that would add.

Re: fave fresh juice recipe?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:13 AMIn Colombia, the streets are lined with make-shift booths full of fresh exotic fruits and familiar ones as well (oranges, mango, pineapple). Every booth has a blender hooked up to the electrical wires sprawling overhead throughout the towns. For 1,ooo pesos (about 50 cents), and "Buenas dias! Uno jugo de naranja con mango, por favor" you get one a half cups of fresh made juice within seconds. Mmmmmm. Any juice from South America is the best juice. In Peru, the markets have areas with the yummiest and most economic options for eating. The juice there is about the same price (2 soles), but it is more often fresh squeezed by hand since the electrical hookups are non existant at the markets. So you can expect to wait a little longer, chat with the locals a little more, and tip a bit nicer too. For me, the US standard of juice consmption is one of the hardest things to readjust to. -

Re: fave fresh juice recipe?
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 9:14 AMMy BF just made a load of juice (his fave is the same as k originally posted). He made the batch so big he got a little sick of drinking it so he ended up cutting the last glass with club soda. He said it was really good.
Is that allowed? ;) -

Juliano's Raw restaurant cuts its 'alien blood' juice (beet, orange, lemon, lime, ginger) with club soda all the time - but at $5 / glass, too much so, in my opinion. At this point, it's more like an alien spritzer - like they added a tsp of juice to a goblet of club soda.
But at home, do whatever you want! Esp considering the work it takes to make juice! :P
