I recently discovered Trader Joe's baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies. 30% less fat (9g for the original and 6g for the baked version) and really tasty. Not quite Flamin' Hot Cheetos, but they do in a crisis, believe me.

Now if I could just find an alternativie to the wasabi Funyuns, I'd be a changed addict, er, man.

Love and light, dear ones.

"have you tried Tings? "

I used to love Tings. like a "healthy" version of Cheetos. but then when the company that makes them had to recall one of their other products for something like salmonella, I just got freaked and stopped buying anything from them. seriously, it you can't keep something like that out of your products, I don't need to be the guinea pig for the next time it happens. eesh.
Guess what I just found? Trader Joe's "Baked jalapeno cheese crunchies"! No MSG, no artificial colors, 33% less fat, and they actually taste *good*! At least as good as Cheetos, and maybe better.

And they have non spicy versions for Loren and others.

I picked the first, just because.

I gave in and bought some of the Spicy Sweet Chile Doritos that Stephen Colbert has been shilling lately.

Really good. To me they taste like General Tso's chicken. (only without the chicken, the sauce, the broccoli, the rice… the healthyish)

My husband thought they were too sweet and not spicy enough. I didn't pick up on anything that struck me as particularly sweet… it was just a sweet/spicy combined – which is probably why it tasted like General Tso's.

I remember the look my former housemate gave me when he discovered the Pringles I had bought. Every so often, like once or twice a year, I just have to have Pringles. I know they're weird reconstituted fake potato things. But I like salt & vinegar, and their particular kind of crunch....

> I recommend lots of water and cut down on the guilt.

Good recommendations.

I didn't even get a migraine, which I thought I might with all that MSG and cheese.

I do like the Kettle Chips brand that someone else mentioned, and AFAIK they don't have MSG.

Mmm.... shrimp chips. They were the only junk food my parents would let me have growing up and not until college did I realize they weren't "normal." My newest treat is Kettle chips brand Buffalo Bleu (bleu cheese and buffalo wings sauce). Yum!

... my apologies for talking junk food on the healthy food tribe, but we all have our vices! ;)

Tri, not just yes... HELL YES! Love the cracker nuts. I usually buy the Nagaraya brand, too. I have a local Asian market (Fubonn) that carries a wide assortment of flavors. My favorite is usually the adobo, but I've been known to grab a bag of garlic, too. That is, if my lovely wife will still agree to kiss me afterwards... I do have to be courteous to her. She can't have peanuts, so I'll usually buy a bag of my other favorite snack from the Asian foods market... SHRIMP CHIPS. The garlic shrimp chips are absolutely addictive.

Okay, so now I'm getting those cravings. Looks like there's a snack run in my near future.

I'll look for those Hot Nuts when I'm in Phoenix, next week. I'll let you know if I see them!

Love and light, dear ones.

Rev - I completely agree with your recommendations. :) Flaming hot cheetos, chili-lime and the wasabi funyun are the kind of snacks I go for during my rare cravings for junk food.

Have you ever had hot nuts? (no.. not THOSE kind! get your mind out of the gutter! tee hee!). The only picture I could find was this: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.theimpulsivebuy.com/images/foodmexico.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.theimpulsivebuy.com/wordpress/2007/03/12/foods-from-mexico-product-review-poll/&h=217&w=450&sz=19&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=ymZYmqROCw08vM:&tbnh=61&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dhot%2Bnuts%2Bmexican%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG
I couldn't find the bigger close up picture, but it's the middle bag at the top. They're like a flaming hot chile-lime cheetos coating around a cracker nut http://www.philippinefoodstore.com/catalog/14_1.jpg . Anyone ever have cracker nuts? It's my sweeties favorite snack (besides Hot Nuts, which I can only find in Mexico!!!). Anyway - I found hot nuts during my first trip to Mexico and bought them just cuz the name was hilarious and there's a picture of a chile and lime on it (can't go wrong with that combination!). They were devoured by my shipmates in seconds (I was working on a cruise ship). I then bought as many as I could at every port and gave a bag to my dad when I got home. He just went to Mexico and bought several bags and gave me 2. We're saving one for a special occasion. ;)

Stephanie, I've been snacking on those things for YEARS. They're awesome. They also have chile-lemon, as well.

I also recommend wasabi flavored Funyuns, too.

Okay, okay, yes, I admit it. I get junk food cravings. Especially when I'm traveling. My company sends me to the outskirts of Phoenix, or Villa Rica, Georgia, and the only place to shop is the local convenience store, next to the hotel... yep, I resort to buying the crap.

I recommend lots of water and cut down on the guilt.

But succumbed to the lure of "flaming hot Cheetos".
