Popcorn is very good for you. It's an aphrodisiac. Vitamin A & E and high in fiber. I have eaten popcorn more than probably any other food over my entire lifespan. Cook it in a pan with some oil. Enjoy the hell out of it. It's a gift from the universe or God or whatever.

I still say that even though it's pretty good at not being unhealthy, it's also not really providing necessary nutrients, so it's not very high on the healthy scale either.

Though if you're looking for a way to help ease hunger while losing weight, it could help.

Linda, IS it low on the glycemic scale?

I'd hear a rumor that it was HIGH on the scale because of the way it is blown inside out- like puffed rice products and such.
Somehow being puffed makes it more a simple carb than a complex one??

Any thoughts?

If you ever get a chance, grow some yourself. Just as other veggies have more flavor fresh from the garden, so does popcorn. We grew a Japanese variety that doesn't get very tall. Yummmy.

Popcorn is a whole grain. In its unadorned state (air popped with no oil), it is sodium free, sugar free, high fiber, low calorie (a one-cup serving has 31 calories), gluten free and low on the glycemic scale.
Munch away!

This is what I've heard, but I'm no expert…

Popcorn is basically nothing. It's not exactly bad for you – until you add stuff to it. You're just not pulling much from it. It's like eating air… you still need nutrients to survive.
But there is a small amount of protein, especially in what you might add to it. But the really bad stuff is added in, not inherent in the popcorn. (Butter, cheese, etc.)

is it bad for you? i'm not talking about the microwave crap, but the good stuff, air popped with a little olive oil and sea salt and lots of nutritional yeast.... maybe some braggs... that can't be bad, right?
