Here's my predicament...I have a toddler who doesn't eat "breakfast" food. He seems totally happy with his banana and peanut butter sandwich each morning, but I am looking for other ideas for the two of us.

What do YOU like for breakfast?

I want to make a sorbet of sorts out of Bananas and Agave. Yup, that's it. All I got. How would you go about making this happen without a Ice Cream churn? Smash it, mix it, freeze it? : )

What's the best way to roast butternut squash?

O.K., so, I get these lovely 2 lb. containers of butternut squash cubes, approximately 1" and smaller square. I start out the same way every time - tossing the chunks in oil, and seasoning them nicely - but I haven't nailed the right combination of temperature vs. time to make them nice and crispy on the outside, like oven-roasted potatoes or the like. They either turn out too mushy, or way too, er, "carmelized"! There have been times when I've gotten really *close* to a nice texture, but I can't seem to replicate it well. It could have something to do with the difference in sugar content in the squash, but I have a feeling operator error is more likely here. What are your thoughts or recommendations? Even suggesting I give up and do something else with the squash is valid. ;o) Thanks, in advance, for any help with this! ~ Misha

Teas for mucus and fasting

Hello Everybody.

I know is not exactly the right post for this question, BUT it is the group i'm part of so i ask...

I'm going through a 7 days fast with the intention of getting rid of as much mucus as possible through out my whole system. so far i have been guiding this fast with aryuvedic principles so as to see too much mucus as a kapha imbalance.

So i have been drinking plenty of ginger tea... some cayenne tea when i feel brave enouth and kombucha here and there to keep apetite down.

Any other ideas or recommendations on how to get as much mucus as i can in this 6 days out of my body?

Salut!
Nico

a most delicious Indian semolina pudding:

1 cup semolina
1 1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2-3 slivers of saffron
4-5 tbsp Ghee/clarified butter
5-8 cashew nuts
2 tbsp raisins
1/3 cup pineapple chunks (optional)

In a deep bottomed pan roast the semolina for 5 minutes on medium low heat. (preferably even longer on low heat - say 20 mins)
In another pan add 1tbsp ghee/clarified butter. Fry the cashew nuts and raisins till golden brown. Remove it from the pan and keep aside. Add the remaining ghee to the pan. To this fold in the semolina.
In a cup of warm water soak the saffron.
Add the water to the semolina. Also pour the remaining 1/2 cup water and stir well on medium low heat. Also add Sugar.
Once the water is absorbed fold in pineapple chunks, cashew nuts and raisins. Leave it on low heat of few minutes.

(tasty with custard)

Offer to the lord of your heart and serve hot (so that makes it a prasad i spose!)

substituting flours

Thought this might be worth a thread. . .
I'm allergic to wheat and eggs. There are so many other flours available, are there any rules for proportion when substituting rice, quinoa, barley, rye, corn, etc, flours for wheat? Which one would you use to make a roux? Best for coating fried chicken, veggies? Dry coatings vs batter recipes?

I'm having a Christmas party and some of the participants are allergic to wheat and dairy. I'm looking for good ideas for treats to set out other than the usual cheese and crackers routine. Any good ideas? (I would like to keep it as close to traditional as possible.)

Last month I happened on a posting on craigslist for the only people in my area raising grass fed beef. I just picked up my order today. It's all frozen so the only thing we've tried so far is the ground beef. Not only was it tasty, but there was no grease and the meat didn't "cook down" at all. Since the usable volume is so much greater than store bought beef I think we'll come out about the same on price.

Antioxidant in Orange Juice Linked to Better Blood Vessel Health, Lower Blood Pressure
By Kelli Miller Stacy
WebMD Health News Reviewed by Elizabeth Klodas, MD, FACC

July 20, 2009 -- An apple a day is said to keep the doctor away, but orange juice may be good at the job, too.

An antioxidant in orange juice called hesperidin improves blood vessel function and helps lower a person’s risk of heart disease, researchers report.

Hesperidin is a plant-based compound called a flavonoid. (Grapes, red wine, green and black teas, and chocolate also contain flavonoids.) A growing body of evidence suggests that flavonoids can improve the health of the delicate cells that line blood vessels. The way these cells work is referred to as "endothelial function." Problems with these cells can lead to the development of clogged arteries, a major risk factor for heart attacks and strokes.

For the study, 24 healthy men at risk for cardiovascular disease each drank either 500 milliliters of orange juice each day, a "dummy" drink that contained the same calories as orange juice, or a dummy drink fortified with 292 milligrams of hesperidin. A 500 milliliter glass of orange juice naturally contains 292 milligrams of hesperidin. Over the course of the study, every man drank every beverage for one month straight.

The researchers found that when the men drank the daily orange juice or the hesperidin-fortified drink, they had better endothelial function and lower diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number of a blood pressure reading) than when they drank the non-hesperidin beverage. In addition, gene expression profiles (as related to cardiovascular disease development) were improved.

The findings are being presented this week at the American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiovascular Sciences Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

courgettes braised in fragrant oil

Preliminaries: For optimal results, make some rosemary infused olive oil. Just put some good olive oil in a clean glass jar, about two thirds of the way up, then stuff the jar full with rosemary. No garlic, no chilis, and certainly not a dainty single sprig. Put the lid on the jar and leave it out on your countertop. Give it a shake when you see it, once a day at least. In a few days you will have a headily rosemary-scented olive oil. At this point you can leave the rosemary in to make the scent even stronger, or remove the rosemary.

If you are in a hurry, you can scent your olive oil as you cook the zucchini slices by putting a couple of sprigs into the simmering oil. Beware of the rosemary burning though, which will impart a bitter taste.

3 to 4 small to medium zucchini (courgettes)
Rosemary infused olive oil, or olive oil plus a couple of sprigs of fresh rosemary, or rosemary hydrolat if you have it (see notes below about hydrolat)
Salt
Slice the zucchini (courgettes) into 1/2 inch / 1cm thick rounds. Pat the slices dry with paper towels or a kitchen towel.

Pour 1/2 inch / 1cm oil into a large frying pan, and turn the heat up to HIGH. Put the zucchini in one layer in the pan - do not overcrowd the pan. Keep the heat on HIGH until the oil starts to bubble up rapidly, then lower the heat to low-medium, or to the point where the oil is quietly bubbling around the zucchini.

Leave like this for at least 30 minutes, until the undersides of the zucchini slices turn golden brown. Turn the slices over, and cook until the other sides are also golden brown.

Do not add salt during the cooking process! Salt will draw out the moisture from the zucchini, which is not what we want here. We want the moisture to stay inside while the surface gets crisp and caramelized.

Once the zucchini slices are darkly golden brown (they will have shrunk quite a lot too), remove them from the oil. You can drain them on paper towels to get rid of excess oil if you like. If you are using hydrolad, add about 1/2 teaspoonful at most to the hot zucchini slices and toss rapidly right now. Add a pinch of salt - don’t oversalt, or you’ll mask the delicate rosemary scent.

Serve piping hot, or at room temperature.

You can save the cooking oil for another dish. If you mix the braised zucchini with pasta, sauté the freshly cooked pasta in a bit of the oil. Wonderful!

I would love any recipes that utilize tumeric as a dominant flavor and ingredient in the meal. Its health benefits are numerous and fantastic.

so please, any healthy, non chemically based recipes would be really appreciated.

just a tip for those who appreciate the benefits of raw foods but also have a penchant for cooked meals:
i've been cooking kicharee for my family the past couple of days, and have opted to grate the carrots and zucchinis rather than chopping them, and only *very lightly* frying them with all the spices and ghee.. ;D

Slaw Goddess Burrito

This isn't entirely 'lazy' but I made the rice earlier that week for another recipe and I made enough of the ground beef to use in several other recipes. It's a sweet-tangy-smokey burrito.

Slaw Goddess Burrito 9-19-09

Ingredients

tortillas of choice, heated up before rolling
some fried plantain slices with salt and lime juice on them
slaw: shredded cabbage and carrots, in slaw seasoning: lemon juice, dash of smoke seasoning, and stevia
spinach or lettuce
basil
spanish rice
some kinda beans, mine involved a can of chili actually
ground beef, browned with onions, garlic, dash of red wine, and smoke seasoning
tahini-lemon-yogurt dressing (literally those three things plus salt mixed with enough water to pour) or Goddess dressing

Instructions
1. Assemble the ingredients.
2. Dont die of a heart attack over how awesome this tastes.

So, I bought some at the end of last week, because I was curious about what it was like. And it's not what I thought it would be. (I didn't realize it would become "noodley" when cooked; thought it would stay somewhat "ricey.")

I'm seeking good recipes for how to use quinoa. In meals, as side dishes, whatever.

And, does it have to be cooked? Can you use it raw too, as long as you rinse it?

Its coming into fall, and I am freezing and drying piles of fruit! *yum*

What is your favorite muffin recipe?

I found one that uses oat bran, apple sauce and an egg... (there are more... but that's the basic part)
Its GREAT by itself or with dried or fresh fruit. Kids LOVE them!

I'm always looking for a healthy muffin recipe. Not too much oil, lots of healthy things!

On a lark I bought 3 pimento plants at Wally World (the Evil Empire). I wasn't sure they'd do well here, I've heard they are difficult to grow. Now they are going crazy with big, fat, meaty pimentos hanging all over them. So far I've only picked two ripe ones. They were tasty with chicken.
Anyone have any ideas of what to do with a big wad of pimentos?

US to outlaw All Organic & Natural farming!

H.R. 2749 = Totalitarian Food Control & Food Police:
www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd

During the 2nd vote in two days, the House rules were suspended on 7/30/09 & this bill passed the House. I haven't found the Senate version yet, nor when the Senate will vote on this. The Senate met today.

This extremely nefarious bill will outlaw all natural & organic farming practices, including backyard gardens, unless the farmer can pay $100,000 - $500,000/day in civil penalties &/or spend 10-yrs in prison. It allows the gov't to control all farming operations, including confiscating farmer's land, mandating what crops farmers can plant, what seeds they use, what pesticides they must spray, what livestock is fed, injected with, how they're cared for/maintained, along with high fees to license & track individual livestock animals. All this will be enforced under the martial law enacted by this bill, under what I'm terming the "Food Police".

This will homogenize our food supply, leaving us only with GMOs, processed food, & toxic chemicals - junk food with no real nutritional value. They've also been treating meat (really old meat) with Carbon Monoxide to maintain the pink color we associate with "freshness".

Unders similar bills being pushed through Congress, our rights to all natural & herbal remedies, natural healing modalities, etc. are being stripped, as well, in a takeover of the natural health industry by the major pharmaceutical companies. Look up CODEX Almentarius, for more info. They're eliminating all means of enhancing our immune systems naturally in preparation for the WHO takeover of the world, under their own created "pandemics". Vaccines for H1N1 have been ordered in all 194 WHO signatory countries (including the US) & Baxter is set to deliver billions of vaccines next month (September).

Please help me get the word out & if you know anyone in high places with ties to the natural health industries, let them know. I wonder if Whole Foods is aware of this?

but I don't really care. Last night we had chicken and black bean burritos. There's always leftovers so I stuck them in the fridge. After a day of canning I did NOT want to cook. So I scattered the leftover burrito fixins over some tortilla chips and stuck it in the oven for a few minutes. add a little salsa and some sour cream. mmmmm. black bean and chicken nachos. I think I have a new favorite.

Carob baking chips and the base of a cookie

I have purchased some Caraob chips to substitute for my chocolate cravings. I wish to make some healthier sweets with them some time soon. I have been looking up some cookie recipes, and was also wondering what do you NOT need to include in a cookie recipe. A lot of them asked for honey and oil and sugar, which are things that I would like to keep awayyy from. Help?

Personal Flatbread Pesto Pizza

I love pizza as much as the next person. Unfortunately, it contributes to the expanding waistline. I've devised a personal pizza that is quick, easy, and light on the calorie count. The extra virgin olive oil in the pesto contains mono unsaturated fat (or MUFA) which is known to help lower bad cholesterol and trim belly fat.

Prep time: approx 5 mins

1/4 cup grated mozzerella cheese
2 tblsp pesto sauce
one piece your choice of flatbread (naan, pita, etc. I use naan)
Optional: veggies of your choice (I like artichoke hearts and kalamata olives)

First spread pesto sauce on flatbread, then sprinkle cheese on top.

Cook in microwave on high for 20 seconds or until cheese melts

Top with your favorite veggies

Calories: approx: 375

Kale Chips!

an idea off of backyard garden survivalist tribe- i tried today-

Tear up the kale into pieces, put some olive oil on the pan and over the kale a bit, add some sea salt,- i also added paprika- optional

and bake at 350 for about 10 min or until crispy.

SO yummy. they arn't dippin chips though- not quite thick enough for that.

when i lived in africa, there was a dish like this- spinich dried on the roof of the house with some salt. same principle really- and pretty tasty. they made it in little patties for thickness. however... its super humid in TN so that doesn't work for us. :) even in our solar oven.

I eat a lot of salad! I add chicken and tuna with crab and sometimes a turkey patty to different salads to switch it up a bit, but I am beginning to not look forward to them so much anymore. I have been using the same veggies even though I try to add as much variety as possible. I need to learn to cook more things, salads are just easier. Any ideas?

energy booster healthy green drink

I was catching up on news Sat morning and saw an ABC episode of how to boost your energy by having morning green drinks. The nutritionist was pretty informative. I searched for a while, found the info on what was in the drink. Here is the recipe:

Green Smoothie by Kimberly Snyder
http://kimberlysnyder.net/category/recipes/smoothies-recipes/

It takes only a few minutes to prepare this amazing green smoothie:

* 1 1/2 cup of water
* 1 head of organic romaine lettuce, chopped
* 3-4 stalks of organic celery
* 2 organic apples, cored and chopped
* 1 organic banana
* 1/3 bunch of organic cilantro
* 1/3 bunch of organic parsley
* Juice of ½ fresh organic lemon

Add the water and chopped head of romaine to the blender. Starting the blender on a low speed, mix until smooth. Gradually moving to higher speeds add the herbs celery and apples. Add the banana and lemon juice last.

This smoothie tastes yummy. The fruit and lemon cut right though the grass taste.

Feel free to mix and match different greens and fruits, as these two specific food groups combine well.

Alkaloids give us a temporary high as acids are neutralized in the body and the blood is alkalized. What if you could feel like that all the time, without the horrible side effects (belly fat, energy slumps, um….illegal??)

Well, there really is a way to get a natural high (Yay!). Raw greens have the same effect as alkaloid substances, thereby giving your body the alkaloid stimulation it desires. The great news is that their high lasts much longer, and unlike the other aforementioned substances, greens soothe the nerves and calm the body.

By consuming a green smoothie, you are blending the greens which is in essence “predigesting” the greens. Many of the important nutrients in greens are encased inside plant cells and getting their benefits requires these cells’ walls to be ruptured. So blending allows the food to be ingested as a whole vegetable with fiber intact (as opposed to juicing), so you feel FULL from the fiber and are able to absorb the maximum amount of nutrition from your greens. Plus, you are getting more greens than you would probably get in a day…or in a few days!

Saturday I bought a quart of blueberries. My kid has announced she doen't like blueberries so I get to make whatever I want. Needs to be something I can freeze and thaw out a few at a time, since I'll be the only one eating it.

Any suggestions on what to make?

Has anyone tried colon cleansing/detox?

I visited a Chinese herbalist recently, and she suggested I do a bowel cleanse because the toxins from my clogged colon was causing
my acne. She also told me that foods that most ppl think are healthy like whole grains, brown rice, etc aren't really healthy b/c they were not
meant to be digested by our digestive system.. What do you think ppl think? I did do some research and reading on the Paleo Diet, and it makes sense... our bodies haven't evolved enough to the point where we can digest grains and rice properly... maybe we should stick
with fruits/veggies and meats instead?

Also, what are your thoughts on doing a bowel cleansing regimen or detoxing to cleanse our intestines? http://www.colonzone.org

Anyway, glad I found this tribe.. I'm such a health freak =)

substitutes for egg whites??

My little lady is allergic to egg whites. Fortunately it is mild but the first time she had eggs she got hives all over her chin and neck and it kinda freaked me out. I want to give her foods like breads and pancakes and such but they all have eggs in them. She can tolerate eggs in very small quantities if in other stuff (as in majorly diluted) and she doesn't have a problem with the yolk. But if I want to bake some cookies or cake or make a meat loaf or pancakes or bread some chicken or or or... what are good substitutes for eggs. Thanks all.

I hear that "soy" is bad for men, because it promotes estrogen synthesis. This in turn, degrades free testosterone production in men for a healthy musculature body. Whey protein, I've heard is best, but how does rice protein stack up? Does anyone have any recipes for protein fortified cooking? Fish eggs and chicked are staples in my diet. I'm looking to boost protein in order to crash-diet a cycle. I want to cut down on my portions, but not starve my body. Any high protein cooking ideas?

Red, White & Blue 4th of July BBQ ideas

Trying to plan a 4th of July party and need some IDEAS.... help.

I thought..oh, Strawberry shortcake with Strawberries & Blueberries for the red white & blue part.

Lemonade

Tomatoes & Feta.what else is blue ... blue / purple basil for Grilled Bread with Olive Oil, Garlic, and Tomato

Recipe: Rainbow Slaw with Curried Yogurt Dressing

Ingredients

* ½ small head green or Savoy cabbage (about ¾ pound)
* ½ small head red cabbage (about ¾ pound)
* 2 teaspoons salt
* 2 medium carrots, peeled and ends trimmed
* 2 teaspoons top-quality curry powder, preferably Sun brand Madras-style

CURRIED YOGURT DRESSING

* 1 cup plain yogurt
* 1½ tablespoons minced fresh ginger
* ½ tablespoon minced garlic
* 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
* ¼ cup light cream
* ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
* ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

* 1½ cups raisins

Directions

FIRST Remove the tough outer leaves from the cabbage and cut each in half. Cut out the core. Separate and stack the leaves together and cut into fine julienne strips. (You should have about 12 cups.) Put in a bowl, sprinkle in the salt, toss lightly, and cover with a plate with a heavy pot on top. Let sit for about 1 hour and drain in a colander. Grate the carrots.

SECOND Heat a small, heavy skillet until hot. Put the curry powder in the pan and stir with a wooden spoon over medium-low heat until the curry powder is very fragrant. Scrape out onto a plate to cool.

THIRD To make the Curried Yogurt Dressing, put the yogurt in a mixing bowl and add the curry powder and the remaining ingredients of the dressing, whisking lightly after each addition. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

FOURTH Put the drained cabbage, carrots, and raisins in a bowl. Pour in the dressing and toss lightly to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, tossing occasionally. Serve.

Any good food will do, just kinda having a mental block. Thanks for suggestions!!

Steam a head of calliflower until tender, not mushy!! (can use broccoli too).

Put in a baking dish and drizzel a mix of mayo and mustard (any flavor).

Sprinkle with shredded cheese (any flavor). I like jalepeno, but most make with chedder.

Bake at 350' for 15 mins or until cheese has melted into crunchy bits on the bottom.

Eat like orgasmic candy of the culinary Gods!
Blessed Be!

Rhubarb in savory dishes?

I've been toying with the notion of trying rhubarb in non-desserts. I haven't actually tried any yet.

Last night I cut a small amount into a salad, used my vinagrette dressing – it was absolutely wonderful. Now I'm even more interested in savory cooking with rhubarb.

Does anyone have any good NON-dessert recipes using rhubarb?

We don't have a big variety of foods available here in gooberville. In fact, the Farmers Market just started up again for the summer. This morning I got up early to check it out. Came home with some lovely farm fresh eggs, whole wheat bread and heavy cream. Eight minutes in the mixer and the cream became fresh butter.

Breakfast was delightful.

I suppose not very lazy....this came about from wanting sushi but not having the funds to eat out....

I simply made sushi rice, got my nori ready. Then I filled the sushi with canned salmon, mandarin oranges (also canned) avocado and sauted mushrooms. I added some soy vay teriyaki sauce on the top. Needless to say it was delicious!

Lazy meal plans

So, what do the incredibly lazy eat on a daily basis?

I try to eat something like this:

Oatmeal or greek yogurt with berries
Salad greens with chicken or tuna
Brown rice & beans/lentils w/steamed veggies
Fruit and nuts for snacks

Sounds easy enough, but sometimes just steaming veggies and making rice seems like too much work <lol>. What do you guys do to be healthy but still lazy?

Does anyone have info on this? I need to drop a few. Last time I did South Beach which worked really well for me. This time I've been watching a lot of videos on what contributes to global warming and meat production is at the top of the list. So this time around I'm wanting to make some permanent changes toward considerably less meat, eggs and dairy.

I found an article on "Margarita" popsicles, which merely were lemon lime pops with tequila drizzled over them and sprinkled with salt. Yummy.

Vanilla chai oatmeal?

I don't know what originally possessed me to try this, but it was FANtastic!

1/2 cup oatmeal (I use quick-cooking rolled oats)
1/4 - 1/3 scoop Slim Fast vanilla powder (didn't quite measure it)
salt, other spices to taste
"dribble" milk
Boiling water

I always sprinkle in some salt, nutmeg and cinnamon, since this is not pre-packaged oatmeal I'm using. I usually just put boiling water in the gladware and seal it. This time, since I was adding the Slim Fast powder I used some milk too.

Mix oatmeal and spices, add Slim Fast powder. Dribble in the milk and stir lightly. Pour in boiling water, put lid on but do not seal completely. Microwave for about 20 seconds. Remove from microwave, stir. Seal for about 3-4 minutes to make sure oatmeal is fully cooked.

It tastes sooo good. It smells like an expensive vanilla chai latte, but it's oatmeal. You can use all of your preferred spices to flavor it however you want. It loses the "fake" Slim Fast flavor, for those who know what I'm talking about and don't like that. It's very satisfying, easy to make – even at work – and it travels easily, as long as the dry goods are already mixed. Though I suppose if you don't mind cold oatmeal, it travels pretty well once it's fully made, too.

Locally grown?

I have to ask, and I'm sorry if I sound dumb or uninformed, but I keep hearing this so much and I really want to know what the big deal is.

"To improve your health, eat 4-5 servings of organic, locally grown fruits and vegetables every day."

How does "locally grown" improve my health at all? Is it somehow better for me if my food breathes the same air I breathe? Is corn from up the road somehow more healthy for me than corn from the next town?

And I'm not looking for "carbon footprint" answers… what's the direct correlation between carbon footprint and health? I've never seen an actual ratio from a reliable source.

I understand the organic vs. pesticide argument. I get that part. I just don't get the "locally grown" deal and how that specifically approves or affects my health. Especially if I live in a smoggy area… wouldn't I rather have vegetables from a place with cleaner air?

Do you eat Pork?

I've intrinsically stayed away from Pork for quite some time now. Now wishing to get into arguments with other people about why I don't think it's healthy, I just state instead that I don't like it. (when in fact I do) It's my little white lie.

My girlfriend who is getting her Masters in RN and also works at Rush Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, just told me at lunch, quite randomly "Katrina!! Stay away from Pork" I told her I don't eat much of it anyways but asked why the sudden concern. To which she responds "I just had a 24yr old woman come in with brain swelling. We couldn't figure out what was wrong with her until a scan of her brain revealed fluid around 'tapeworm cysts' causing her brain to swell. She had an 8ft long tapeworm inside her whose cysts / "eggs" migrated to her brain causing so may problems. This happened from consuming Pork."

To which I responded "Was she underweight, as many people think others with tapeworms are?" "Nope.. she was totally normal except her brain started swelling."

I've never really needed validation to not eat Pork, I've known from research that Tapeworms were introduced primarily in two ways to the human race.. Bad Water & Pork. This just sealed whatever deal I had made with myself about not eating it. I did enjoy the very occasional slice of well cooked bacon from time to time. No more. Apparently the tapeworms cannot survive heat but their Cysts can and how they are 'hatched' is perfect really... It's our digestive acids in the stomach that 'pop' the cysts membrane and essentially, activate the worm.

Ewwwwwwwww. No more Pork ever for me. And this isn't an "I heard it on the internet" story. This comes from a childhood friend of mine who works in the environment.

Guess they had to drain the swelling in her brain and put her on hard antibiotics.. and I mean serious stuff that has it's own host of side effects, just to kill all the cysts in her body.

salt to taste

sprouting like crazy

so I have just learned to sprout, and its so exciting.

but even better is the sprout salad we made at our workshop recently!

Sprouts,
balsamic vinegar, herbs, garlic, lemon juice- etc. whatever kind of flavor your going for really-
and thats it!

and home made sprouts are worlds apart from store bought spouts. I will never again buy sprouts at a store.

I sprout mung bean, lentils, alfalfa, red clover, radish, and a whole bunch of others. - Put them in a 1/2 gal jar, with an open lid- and a screen over the top, soak over night, then rinse twice a day for like 3-4 days. I'm putting them in everything now. :) might even make enough to sell to the CSA.

happy sprouting.

Breakfast, No batter about it.

So I made these pancakes this morning that require no batter what so ever! This is also a good meal idea for someone who is into body building or simply just trying to get more protein in their diet!

3-4 egg whites
1/2-1 scoop protein powder of choice (i used vanilla whey protein)
1/3 cup dry oatmeal

mix all ingredients together and make it like a pancake! mmmMmMMMMmmmm.

Of course, depending on your weight and what you are trying to accomplish( Ex: maybe you have a heavy work out coming up, you would add more oatmeal for the extra carb intake), modifying this recipe to fit your fitness goal is always possible.

I personally used 3 egg whites, 1/3 cup oatmeal, 1/2 scoop powder (I am running low on this stuff, so I try to use it wisely since it can be expensive). I also mixed in some trail mix and cinnamon to offer that warm spice for the pallet.

Experimentation is key! Enjoy.:)

Hi freaks,

I was wondering if you had to choose one, what would be better choice in your diet. Sodium or sucrose?

Is too much sodium worse for your body than too much sugar? Assuming your lifestyle is already a healthy and active one.

I know sugar can be used by your body as instant energy, but what's sodium really good for besides making food tasty??
